To say that I’m inspired by the creativity of my family is an understatement. My wife has managed to write and self publish one book and is very close to finishing her second. My oldest has taken to manga and illustrating that along with their friends.
My Grandmother painted, my mother paints, and my sister had infinite creativity from sketching to painting to baking to photography to basically living as artistically as anyone could.
The first post I wrote on here alluded to my desire to be more creative but I think it’s time to start storyboarding some of my intentions:
My initial writing idea was centered around an alternative history where Canada is attacked by the United States in early 2000s, pre-9/11 and the life of being an insurgent 20-something living in Winnipeg at the time. The idea would also deal with my some my struggles to deal with loss as the protagonist will lose all or part of his family in the initial attack.
The story would be told from a looking back on the events perspective and reflect a retrospective on life approach as the protagonist will die in their final act of rebellion.
As much as it can be a collection of short stories taking a diary or journaling format, that would be ideal and that would lend itself to using this space as the best way of working out the details of creating the story even if the story doesn’t find its way onto this site until the very end.
Is this cliched? Is this too ambitious for someone far removed from creative writing? I hope it falls somewhere in between and while I have no intentions of going as big with this as Colleen has gone with her book, I would love to have something creative with my name on it.
